Just when you thought Requiem for a Dream couldn’t get creepier…

I’m probably way late to the party on this one, but a Twitter friend posted a link to this mashup of Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 2 and drug drama Requiem for a Dream.

On the upside, it’s a lot less scary when you’re watching cartoons play through scenes of the movie. To the negative, it may remind you why, despite its cinematic brilliance, you have no desire whatsoever to see RfaD again for the rest of your life.

[Related]: Requiem Soundtrack—it’s a fantastic one, featuring the Kronos Quartet.

  1. I love Clint Mansell & the Kronos Quartet. I always found the main song (the overtures) in RFaD way powerful, but correlated it with the disturbing feeling of the movie. Then when I heard it in reference to Lord of the Rings, it made it more of an action power. Suffice it to say I like to hear their music, it evokes an odd sense of power in me. (sorry for the corny-ness)

  2. Not corny—I totally agree with you. D and I sometimes talk about whether the music makes the movie, and if so, should it? Shouldn’t the narrative carry the story and not the music? Anyway, we’re nerds I guess, but suffice it to say, Requiem wouldn’t be half the movie it is without the soundtrack. Same with Lord of the Rings.

Did you ever seen Kronos @ Hancher in Iowa City? I went to “Sounds of Space with the Kronos Quartet” in 2002. It was commissioned by NASA and co-commissioned by the University of Iowa. I’m not going to lie to you…it was sorta odd listening to them play with the sounds of space, but it was pretty cool. I’m glad I went.

    Check it: http://www-pw.physics.uiowa.edu/space-audio/Iowa10-2002.html

There’s LOTS of fun stuff (audio, video, etc.) to nerd out with. I might be doing that for the next hour. I mean, have you ever heard the sounds of lightning on Saturn? Crazy!
