I can’t help but notice that things are pretty quiet in the ol’ blogosphere lately, at least among my usual reads. Now, the last time my friends got this quiet, everyone was pregnant. (True to form, Peter announced baby number two was on the way via comments a week or so ago).
Believe me, I’m not one to cast stones. I haven’t put anything read-worthy up here in weeks. The only reason I feel even remotely bad about it is because I can’t think of a great reason as to why I’ve neglectful, aside from being straight up busy with other things. When I’m not busy, I’m distracting myself so as to not empty existential ramblings here. People tend to frown upon that kind of stuff, right? Plus they already made a TV show out of that. You know the one. Claire Danes, Jared Leto, life is painful and beautiful and doesn’t last…sigh. Told you I was born a decade too late.
So, when I’ve needed a short-term distraction, I’ve been messing around on Muxtape. Making mixes was always fun to me, from picking the wide list of songs, to whittling down the lucky 12 (or 18, once CDs came along), and then deciding the order. Because like Rob said:
[T]he making of a good compilation tape is a very subtle art. Many do’s and don’ts. First of all, you’re using someone else’s poetry to express how you feel. This is a delicate thing.
You’ll notice that I’ve added a new tab to the blog, which is your easy access to my Muxtape. I plan on updating it every once in awhile, but you know, they’re time-consuming. But fortunately, this first one will take you at least 45 minutes to get through, and that’s not counting the re-listens.
So go check it out. You can listen to it at work, or at home while you’re making dinner. Hopefully you find some stuff you like and rediscover some hits of the past. And if you make one yourself, be sure to share it with me—deal?
