Way Back

My grandfather on my mom’s side will turn 90 this year. Throughout childhood, my cousins and I were bored to tears over his stories of the Great Depression, World War II and conservation efforts.

Over the last few years, however, I’ve realized that my grandpa (grandparents, really) have some fascinating stories, and I’ve become incredibly grateful for the experiences they’ve given to me (although sitting at the Iowa State capitol while your grandfather hashes out conservation legislation is really not ideal for any 10-year old).

Recently, my dad scanned a few of my grandpa’s old photos, from the Depression era and beyond. I got details behind many of them last night, and my mind has been whirring since.

Anyway, they’re pretty cool photos; I posted a couple more after the jump.
